Our Story

A surf family, two generations deep

Madness Surfcraft wasn't built overnight. It was passed down — shaped by a father, tested by a son, and carried forward by a shared love for surfing.

It began in the small surf city of Carlsbad, California, with Marty Madison, who started shaping surfboards for his son, Tyler, while he was growing up. What began as a fun side project became something much more meaningful. Over the years, a father shaped dozens of boards for his son to ride throughout his teenage years — built with care, purpose, and a firsthand understanding of what a surfer needs under their feet.

After high school, the two took the trip they had talked about for years: Indonesia. They brought the boards, the stoke, and a lifetime of shared sessions. Riding those boards in some of the world's best waves gave the Madness name a deeper meaning. It was never only about making surf equipment — it was about family, craftsmanship, travel, and time in the ocean.

A few years later, the next generation saw the opportunity to bring Madness Surfcraft back to life. The vision was simple: create genuine, dependable surf products that surfers could afford.

It started with leashes. Months were spent working through designs, materials, and manufacturing details to make products that could stand up to real surf conditions. Once the leashes were ready, they were tested in the water before they ever reached customers. Deck pads came months later, built with the same commitment to performance, durability, and value.

Surfers in California put the products through everyday sessions, while the Madness crew tested them across Indonesia's powerful reefs, warm-water lineups, and long days chasing waves. Nothing was rushed. Every product went through real-world trial and error before it earned the Madness name.

Today, Madness Surfcraft has grown from a father shaping boards for his son into an international surf brand built on the same foundation it started with: family, function, and genuine time in the ocean.

We all surf. That means everything we make is tested by us before it ever reaches you. We make surf products for surfers — built for real sessions, made to last, and priced so more people can get out in the water.
